taking a breather

Ah.
Tired.

I understand the Monday Blues and TGIF a lot more now.
Work doesn't suck. Well, maybe a leeee-tle.
Business is not something easy to get your head around.

I understand why people get burnt out so fast;
they try to cram everything into their lives, try to please many parties at one time.
You just can't do that.

I don't feel like watching TV or going out anymore because I'm tired.
I just want to rest whenever I can.
And if I decide I want to indulge in other activities besides work, I deal with the consequences
i.e. crawling into the office the next morning and trying not to fall asleep after lunch.

Work never ends. So take time off to rest when you need it.
Besides, your work quality is better when you're feeling better.
Hehe. I'll take any excuse to rest.

In the last two weeks plus that I've been working, I met a lot more Datuks and Tan Sris than I ever have in my entire life. Most of them are very nice. Probably because they want you to write good stuff about them haha.

I like people from the chinese press. Nanyang, Sin Chew, China Press. They are all super duper friendly and are never stingy with their notes. Well, I can only speak for those I've met lah. Can't say that about everyone. Don't get me wrong, there are also nice people from english press too. Just that the air is more...competitive with them around. Hahaha.

Ok Yew Jin, I hope you're the only one from office reading this. DO NOT READ THIS BLOG IN THE OFFICE AR. Otherwise I'll...I'll spike your coffee. You are only allowed to read this as my friend, not as colleague. Okaaaaaaaaaaay? And thanks a million for all the rides. Don't bully me when I move over to your desk :D dor dor zhi gao~

Today at work, while I was mulling in my brain dead state, I received an sms.
The dearest boyfriend sends me a message to tell me that he's at the beach, lying down relaxing, thinking of me.

Aww, shucks.

I wish I was there too! Sigh. He's probably at some seafood restaurant having his dinner now.

Ooh...me got new mobile phone recently. Sponsored by da Godfather. Hohoho.
He gave me his N70 because he bought himself the N95.
He's also sponsoring me a set of wheels. *grin*

I need to buy myself the P sticker cuz I suck at driving.
I can't park.
I hate Carrefour's spirally spiral carpark ramp.
I hate roundabouts; the first time I failed driving test was at the bloody roundabout.
How sad :(

I'm babysitting Liang's Kenari until Friday. But I don't dare to drive it lest I damage it *eeps*

I want to buy new shoes.
I need to get more work clothes.
I want to watch Pirates 3.
I want to meet up with friends to chit chat.
I want to go to IKEA.
I want to go shopping at Sg Wang.
I want to take sticker photo.
I want to get bangs.
I want to buy dresses from Amour.
I want to buy earring tower.
I need to clean the hamster's cage.
I need to alter my clothes.
I need to plan something for Father's Day.
I need to exercise.
I want to hunt for good banana leaf rice.
I want to eat at Lotus in PJ.
I want to eat SS15 burger dadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

When can I get all these done? Sigh :(

*think happy thoughts*
Grandma's 80th Birthday two weekends ago. Photos to be uploaded!
Yew Jin's girlfriend's 21st Birthday dinner this Saturday. Need to order cake!
Going to Malacca for the weekend NEXT WEEK WAHOO~!!! Want to eat assam laksa and cendol and the famous bakery, Nadeje (did I get that right?) *eateateateateat*

Ah.
Tired.

Off to iron my clothes and sleep. Ta!

Third one in print today =D

The new paid paper was launched today. There was a mini celebration with pizza in the office last night. There are many differing views about the new paper, all interesting; and also lots of juicy insider goss which I wish I was at liberty to share! Rawr.

Anyways, have not updated in the longest time! Aya...my laptop also broke down. We're in the same boat *sniff*

All those photos...and all my bloody assignments which I was saving for my portfolio! Bah! That's why I haven't been updating old photos. Grr...

I think Aya's prediction of 2007 being bad luck for technology could be true. My dad's camera battery charger just konked out -_- *sigh*

Oh well.

i am officially a slave

So, I started work on Tuesday. Here's the full report as requested by Hui Ling.

First day. I was a sakai and arrived 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. I went up, called the HR lady and waited for my briefing. Filled in forms, signed a lot of things I was forced to speed-read, then the lady went on to brief us (me and an accounts girl). After all that yadida, she took us on a tour all over the office and introduced us to other sakai people who go to work early. Not many people around; I guess there aren't that many sakais there. My boss doesn't even come in until 11am -_-

So, after introducing us to the pantry, the cafe and the toilets, she leaves the accounts girl at the admin floor and throws me back up at the editorial floor. My dear friend who kindly gave me a ride also kindly sakai with me that day; she was the only one sitting at the property desk almost all morning. Since my editor was out, her assistant settled me in. She had me placed at the financial daily for my training. Then I sat there until my bum ached, reading newspapers while waiting for the I.T. leng chai korkor to set up my computer for me. Then I sat some more until the other editor came in. Then I sat even more until he was free to talk to me. I feel so bad because I kebas some graphic designer's desk since the daily news desk was full.

Then. I spent the whole day. The entire freaking day. Reading. Newspaper. The Sun. The Star. The Edge. All the business news I can find online. OMG SO BORING OK. I kept falling asleep. The point was for me to get an idea of business news reporting and the style it's written in. Argh! Zzz...

I met two seniors that day. The other I.T. leng chai korkor was my senior in Seafield. The leng lui from another department was my senior in Taylor's College. Since I was so free, they brought me out for lunch. Duck rice. Sunrise. Mmm, you know you want it, Gary and bee. Crispy skin...juicy meat...slurp~~~

So my first day like that lor. Zzz. Quite boring. Met a lot of people, shook a lot of hands and forgot a lot of names. The environment is quite nice la, everyone's helpful and friendly. No lan si lan yong people.

Today second day. Early morning assignment. So I followed another writer to cover an AGM. Will be learning the ropes from him. I'm still freaking lost though. Spent a lot of time looking up financial terms and meanings. Headache! After we finished writing the report, we hand it in to the editor to get it edited and primed for tomorrow's paper. Since we didn't have any other assignments that day, I spent most of the evening reading again. Read so much also still so lost.

Like that lor my job now. Let's see how long I survive.

a bak chang story~~~

I visited my godparents today. Bought a cake for me godma, but forgot to take a photo of it though! Fruit cake from Berry's Cake house, new flavour. The kiwis and strawberries are so freaking SOUR. Should have listened to my instincts and gotten the golden cheesecake instead. My godma made bak chang today and we became her guinea pigs. She usually makes nyonya style and this is her first time wrapping "ham yook chung". The broth wasn't salty enough.

She asked me whether it was salty enough. My aunt asked whether it was salty at all.

Before I tarnish her reputation any further, I have to say that this was her first attempt and all bak changs aside, she is a FANTABULOUS cook. She is incredibly good at nyonya food especially otak-otak and her pai tee is superb and her assam laksa ohmygod shit I better stop. Most of the people on my dad's side are superb cooks, even my cousin once opened a nyonya restaurant and my other aunt makes fabulous roast chicken and turkey. Now, where did MY cooking genes go to? >:( Burnt cookies and raw potato bake got la -_-

So I learnt how to eat "ham yook chung" with sugar today. Apparently, my late paternal grandparents always had bak chang with a teaspoon of sugar. It tasted good! Then we decided that we shall find a free day soon to learn the art of wrapping bak changs from the grandmaster of bak chang making that is my PorPor.

Speaking of which, this brings me back to my first attempt at wrapping bak chang. Eventhough I've been watching my PorPor wrap bak changs since I was old enough to walk and talk, it is no simple feat I tell you. FREAKING SUSAH OK. You have to know how to choose the leaves; cannot too big, cannot too small, cannot too slim, cannot too wide, cannot too short, cannot too long. Wei! Finding a good husband also easier la! Cis.

Even before you wrap, you have to prepare all the ingredients. The reason why my granny's bak changs are the bestestestestest in the world and I love her so much for it is because the ingredients are top quality and GENEROUS. Every bite contains one or two of the seven ingredients she puts in. Velvety soft mushrooms...sweet fung lut...mmm....ok, I'm getting distracted. Anyway, the ingredients are washed and fried the night before - my granny fries ALL the ingredients, to encourage the aroma, something you never get with bak changs elsewhere - the leaves have to be soaked and cleaned.

Then the wrapping begins. You have to choose the right combination of leaves to make a cone. It must be deep enough to squash all the ingredients and not leave any gaps where the filling will come out. You must also leave enough length to wrap the whole thing at the end. Mine was so badly done that when she took them out of the pot, only the string was left :( She had to fish the leaves out and all the filling was floating around in the broth *cries* To comfort me, my granny taught me another style of wrapping where the end product looks like a pillow. Much easier to wrap but...so unsatisfying T_T

Apparently you have to be strong and deft at wrapping bak changs. Hmph.

I hope at this next attempt I will not have to resort to making pillow bak changs again. Having to make pillow bak chang instead of the cone type really spells N-O-O-B in capital letters.

Argh can't wait to eat those bak changs again! The legacy of her bak changs are such that my cousin's school bus driver from 20 years ago can remember the taste of it phwoar. Sadly, she's getting really old and all the hard work tires her out. She even fell sick the last time she made bak chang few years back :( which is why she will be passing the recipe down to my godma and me. My mom malas to learn because my granny's instructions with everything is: agak-agak la.

Susah nyer.

no more crossdresser

Yesterday was Mr Kel's birthday!

~HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOOD!!! ~

Faster get well and go party hard. May God bless you with good health and happiness and many many many pretty girls hehehe. *throws confetti*

3am philosophy of love

Miss Kuaci much?

love is like a box of chocs
a neverending box of chocs
you just keep giving one out to those you think are worth it

and see if they eat it or not

then after they eat already,
you see if they give one back to you;
or throw the wrapper at you

so what happens if that person takes the choc but doesn't eat it?
sometimes people run out of chocs to give too :(
but don't be afraid to share them.
spread the lurrrve :)

Mom & Adrian at QPAC entrance.

My family. I was backstage getting my robes on.

Mom posing. I was probably in the hall doing some stupid survey at this moment.

Inside Concert Hall. I'm somewhere below that huge flat screen.

Blur of me. We had to tip our mortarboards at the Chancellor before accepting our certs.

Graduates leaving the hall.

Me and the girl behind were busy counting down the names. The guys sitting behind us were conspiring to throw their mortarboards in the air. Contrary to popular American teenage movies, we didn't throw ours in the air although we very much wanted to dump those heavy things.

Outside at the front garden. Finally some fresh air!

With my parents :)

Then we went back inside to take more photos.

Last one at reception area.

After that, we went to get some professional photos taken before returning the robes.

Sorry about the lousy quality. I was too lazy to scan them, I just snapped them with a camera.
There are two more I won't post here because they have been framed up already. Besides, I look retarded in them. -_- These will do.

Sadly, my grandma couldn't join us due to ailments :(
Was fun nevertheless. Will update with more photos of our family trip.

When I have the time. And after Liang is done with the Australian Trip updates. And after one of us is done with Cyberjaya MMU Prom updates. While we're at it, we might upload a video of Kuaci cycling too. And oh my God! Good Charlotte concert...so many things to update o.o

Lazy lar...

Australia Trip 1

Months before I'm able to blog about Australia...maybe I'm just plain lazy to post la. I gonna blog about Australia now.Finally.

The first day when I arrived Brisbane, Australia, I saw damm a lot of Mat Salleh. Damm jakun. Not 1, not 2 but MILLIONS! The custom was freaking strict and took me almost an hour before I'm able to check out and meet Eva. From the airport, we took the train back to Eva's place. Quite a distance from the train station to her place. Have to drag my bags all the way. Along the way, saw lots of weird and nice houses. And when I saw Eva's house...I damm chuak cos it look damm spooky....brr~ But inside damm cosy!
Eva's house. From here, it doesn't look spooky.

We did not do anything during the first day la. Just lepak-ing and chit-chatting.So many things to catch up. At nite, we went to a shop for makan. I forgot the shop's name d. I
'll ask Eva and edit later. They serve delicious pizza and carbonara.

The next day, we took bus to the city. The driver was very friendly and people over there damm polite. Before enter the bus, the driver will smile and joke around and right before going off the bus, the passengers will tell the driver thank you. I tak biasa with the system over there but have to follow what other passengers did la. I guess by telling the driver thank you before going down the bus will make him feel that he's appreciated.

The City (Behind me is Treasury Casino)

South Bank

In the city, we saw few performances. Some are really skillful and interesting. Reminds me of Jonker street in Malacca.

We went for shopping and tried lots of weird hats. Just main-main around.

When I grow up, I wanna be a farmer.

Stylo mylo

Crocodile Dundee

Brr~

Waterboy

The Three Monkeys. That's the name of the restaurant we went. Ownage food.*slurps*
